New materials and campaign updates

We are extremely fortunate to have an incredible team (who we like to call our Action Team.) These people have done awesome things in helping us for the past few weeks. Today we released several materials developed by our team. Look around campus for our new TUAction! buttons. Our new banner is hanging at the corner of Broad & Norris and will be moving around campus in the next couple days. Check out our new ads on Facebook and our new graphics in the Facebook group. Our new palm card flyers have arrived. If you would like a button to wear or some flyers to pass out, please email tuaction@temple.edu, and we'll get them to you as soon as possible.

Tomorrow is Philly Clean Up. We've moved the site to join the rest of the Temple community. We're meeting at the Bell Tower at 10:30 AM, and then will be in the surrounding communities doing different projects.

Elections are approximately 72 hours away, and we are incredibly excited!

President's Debate Recap and other news

Last night was the President's Debate at J&H. Thank you to everyone who came out and watched Kylie. Debates are really a great opportunity to learn about the differences between the two tickets.

TUAction at Philly Spring Clean Up is coming up on Saturday. Please RSVP to tuaction@temple.edu! Over 90 students have thus far RSVPed for it, and we are really excited to get out in the community.

The graphic above was developed to demonstrate that TUAction helps the average Temple student. It shows different problems students face and then link to our website for the solutions. We want to show everyone that we are committed to real action for real problems.

TUAction around campus and other news

Over the past few days, we've been fortunate to have the opportunity to speak at a number of different programs and meetings around the University. On Friday, we were at the meeting of the American Marketing Association and at Relay for Life, which raised thousands of dollars for cancer research. On Saturday, we got to see an amazing Temple Theater's production of The Caucasian Chalk Circle. Tonight, we spoke at the Panhellenic Association meeting, which is the governing body of four of Temple's sororities. We will be at more programs and events this week.

Please don't forget to RSVP for the Philly Spring Clean Up event this Saturday. We want to have a large turn out to show our neighbors that Temple students do care. Over 80 students have already committed to coming. The weather is supposed to be awesome, and it will an incredible time.

Also, tomorrow is the President's Debate at 6 PM in Johnshon and Hardwick Cafeteria. Please come out and support!

TUAction will be at Philly Spring Clean Up

This Saturday, April 4, TUAction will be leading a team of Temple students at the annual Philly Spring Clean Up. We will be at Amos Rec Center at 16th and Berks Streets directly next to campus.This event, the largest of its kind in the nation, shows our surrounding community that we care about our neighbors and are willing to partners in improving our city. TUAction at campus programs

Yesterday, we had the pleasure of attending two important campus programs. First, we were at the NAACP's program on the history and contemporary presence of racism. We got to play a part in a conversation about how best to respond to racism on campus. Later yesterday evening, we were at Phi Beta Sigma's "Voices of Change" program, which is part of their annual Sigma Week. They hosted a great program about the power of spoken word and played clips to demonstrate how spoken word can bring about change.

Vice President's Debate Recap

Earlier today was the first debate of the campaign. Anthony and Jon squared off against the two vice presidential candidates for the other ticket. We answered questions ranging from the commuter student population to enlivening the arts on campus to how best to provide additional resources/services to the the student body. Thank you to everyone who came out and watched. It is always easier to speak with friendly faces in the crowd, and it was awesome seeing so many of our supporters there. We got great feedback from a lot of people, and we are excited by what he heard.

Kylie is a Truman Scholar!

Yesterday was a truly special day. Kylie was in the Honors office in Tuttleman Learning Center when President Ann Weaver Hart dropped by for a visit (see pictures above and below.) She was there to personally deliver the news that Kylie has been selected as a Harry S. Truman Scholar. This prestigious scholarship is only awarded to a maximum of 65 students--across the country. The scholarship is named after former U.S. President Harry Truman, and the head officer of the organization is currently former U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright. It is designed to recognize future leaders and to encourage them to become involved in public service. Past recipients include current United Nations Ambassador Susan Rice, former Governor/current Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano, CNN anchor Jeffrey Toobin, and ABC News contributor George Stephanopoulos. We are incredibly proud of Kylie, who is the first Truman Scholar at Temple in four years. Congrats!

Update (1:19 PM) The Temple News featured Kylie in an a newspaper story a few weeks ago. Today, they wrote about her and the Truman scholarship on their blog.

New graphics define TUAction

The above two graphics perfectly represent TUAction. Our platform is designed to positively impact as many students as possible. Oftentimes, enough attention isn't paid to certain groups of students. For example, commuter students have limited opportunities to really get involved at the Univeristy or attend certain events (to see how we address this, check out our platform.)

These graphics are the result of our campaign team, and it can't be said often enough how grateful we are for their assistance. We are extremely luck to have such taleneted and dedicate people helping us.

The first debate is hours away. Please come support us tomorrow at 2:30 in the Student Center Atrium. And as usual, if you have any comments/suggestions/feedback or just want to say hi, please contact us.

Tomorrow at 2:30 PM is the first debate of the campaign. It will be in the Student Center Atrium and is between the vice presidents of each ticket. Jon and Anthony are preparing hard and hope that you'll come out and show your support tomorrow.

TUAction at TSG State of Campus Address

Today, TUAction was introduced at the monthly State of the Campus address. We were given an opportunity to speak about our platform and also field some questions from students. Thank you to everyone who was there to support us.

We also hung our first flyers (see above) around campus this afternoon. Look out around campus for them. Thanks to everyone who saw us hanging up the flyers and offered words of encouragement.

We're also excited to welcome Dominique Wilkins to our campaign team as co-Campaign Manger and Director of Strategic Marketing. He is extremely talented, and we are very fortunate to have him.

Over the weekend, we got a video endorsement, which you can check out by visiting our Facebook group.

We've officially made "Committed to Achieving Results" our campaign slogan. The reason for this is because we are proud that our platform contains realistic objectives and achievable goals. We do not want to sway anyone's vote by making absurd promises or by using fancy rhetoric. We want to tell you exactly what we plan to do and how we plan to do it.

As always, we are incredibly thankful and appreciative of the support that you are showing us. TUAction is not about the 3 candidates; it is about improving the experience of every student at this University.

Lastly, we wanted to thank the women's basketball team for a great season. Unfortunately, we lost yesterday in the NCAA Tournament, but it was great watching the team improve during the season and achieve more than anyone expected.

Congrats to the Temple men's basketball team on a great season and a second straight year as A-10 Champions. The game today against ASU was exciting and close throughout. We join the entire University in thanking you for an unforgettable season and we can't wait for next year. We look forward to the women's basketball game on Sunday vs. Florida.

On another note, thank you to the over 360 of you who have joined our Facebook group thus far. We are thankful for the incredible support being shown and for the dozens of offers to help the campaign.

In other campaign news, our website has gotten a few minor tweaks. We had a photo shoot yesterday with the Temple News, which was a first for all of us. Look out for a major story by them on the elections in this Tuesday's edition. Also, look around campus over the next few days for our first campaign flyers.

Campaign Updates Thursday 3/19

We've been campaigning for two days, and we're incredibly encouraged by the excitement shown by students for our slate. Our website has received dozens of visits already and over 200 supporters have joined our Facebook group. Jarae (our Campaign Manager) has been doing a fantastic job thus far, and we are incredibly grateful. If anyone would like to participate as part of our team, please email tuaction@temple.edu.

Last night, Kylie and Jon attended TSG's community forum, where they had the opportunity to hear from members of our local community. Also, Vice President Bergman and Dean of Students Carry spoke about the importance of the University's relationship with our surrounding community. Many local residents, most of whom have been living in the area for decades, expressed concern about several issues including increased littering, loud noise (particularly on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings) and a lack of parking for community members.

TUAction has several platform points in place to expand and invigorate the relationship between students and our community, particularly with students living in the community. For example, we would work with Campus Safety Services to co-sponsor a Labor Day Fair for all. While this may sound like a small event, several of our neighbors expressed that if students simply had the chance to meet the community members, the relationship would greatly strengthen. Also, we will work with the Community Education Office to expand community service opportunites for students in the local neighborhoods as well as continue our large one day projects. Lastly, we pledge to meet with local leaders, including community block captains, to keep up the dialouge.

Four important updates:

-TUAction named two members of it's campaign team today. Jarae Hines is our Campaign Manager and Michael Slutsky will serve as Director of Information Technology and Webmaster. If you would like to join our team, please email tuaction@temple.edu or visit our website (link below.)

-Our website http://www.tuaction.com/ has officially been launched! It has complete candidate's information including our resumes, our platform, important announcements, and other info about our campaign.

-Our Facebook group started early this morning. Please join and invite your friends. We will use the group to distribute important information and post important news.

-Our first graphic has been developed and is displayed above.

TUAction Launches Campaign

Yesterday, TUAction, a slate comprised of Kylie Patterson, Anthony Leyro, and Jon DeSantis, launched their campaign to lead Temple Student Government next year. Our platform is based on real and achievable goals which will positively affect Temple students. In reaching our goals, we have developed several mechanisms to make TSG a more transparent organization. In the next few days, we will be launching our official website, naming the ActionTeam (our campaign team), and releasing our detailed platform. Any questions thus far?
